Spring is right around the corner (can you see it!?), and that means that spring is inching closer—finally! It’s hard to keep a happy, positive outlook during those long, dreary winter months. Thankfully, there’s lots of tips and tricks I use to keep my living space upbeat, which helps to boost my mood. Here’s five surefire ways to brighten up your home this spring season, that will last all year round.
Scroll down for 5 easy ways you can brighten up your home!
1. Add flowers or plants
Nothing screams “spring” more than fresh flowers! Whether it’s a bouquet in the middle of your dining table, or a pot of greenery next to your couch, bringing in a piece of nature is a great way to brighten a space. Not only are the colors gorgeous additions to any décor, but the aroma and feel that natural plants give makes a space feel bright and inviting. I love using flowers as a pick-me-up when I’m feeling down!

2. Let in the natural light
It’s time to open those curtains and let the sunlight in! It’s true—natural light is the best way to brighten up a room. There’s just something about natural light that is relaxing, but also flattering at the same time. Even on a cloudy day, small hints of natural light will make a difference in your home. Try to avoid fluorescent light, which can be harsh. With spring right around the corner, now’s the time to throw open the shades and bask in the sun.
3. Use mirrors
Believe it or not, mirrors are more useful than just checking out your ah-mazing reflection. They’re actually super helpful in creating a bright space due to the light that reflects off of the glass. Like specific paint colors, mirrors can also work to make a room appear larger. So hang and oversized one on a wall, or prop a floor mirror in the corner, and watch as it works its magic.

4. Fun throw pillows
Is your couch feeling a little neglected? One of the easiest ways to give your living room a quick facelift is with new throw pillows. And the best thing about them is that they can be easily interchanged for the seasons. So maybe you feel like going dark and moody in the winter or near the holidays—but springtime is calling for bright colors, fun patterns, and texture! Try mixing and matching shapes and sizes for a creative look. With so many options to choose from, you can really personalize your space to fit your style.
I bought a pillow insert from Crate and Barrel and plan to swap out the covers for the seasons. I find this way easier for storage than buying new pillows all the time!
5. Use light colors
Have you ever heard that colors have psychological associations? Well, it’s true! Think about it—doesn’t blue just have such a relaxing vibe, while red is more feisty and bold? Colors can have a major impact on your eye and brain, which is why I love using light colors to brighten up a room. The ultimate light color, of course, is white—but you don’t have to go ceiling to floor white. Try any light or pastel color to give a fresh look. Bonus: light colors help make a room appear larger, which is a huge plus for small spaces.
Also, I love introducing more pastel colors into my wardrobe during the springtime! Give me all the baby blues and lavender!!
