How To Create A Productive Work From Home Space

I’m a big believer that everything is better when you’re wearing pajamas (amiright?)…and that includes work! Working from home may seem like a “dream job” to many, but it’s not always what it’s cracked up to be. Let’s face it: it’s hard to stay productive when there’s a new season of Queer Eye on Netflix or a pantry full of snacks calling your name, or a cozy bed that’s itching to be napped in.

I’ve found my groove when it comes to working from home, but it takes a combination of mental focus and creative setup to make for a good work space.

It all starts with the right work environment. One that makes you feel comfortable to get those creative juices flowin’! I know you have a ton of great ideas and setting up your work from home space is one of the first steps to achieving them!

First thing’s first…eliminate the distractions. Yes, that means turning off the TV and turning your phone to silent. Y’all don’t need to be fighting temptations when you’re trying to become a girl boss! Figure out what type of environment is most effective for your productivity. Some people need complete silence, while others like a little background noise. So maybe you turn on your favorite jams, or maybe you pop on your noise-cancelling headphones. Whatever works!

Next, I like to make sure I have a space in the house that is dedicated to my work area. Create a little nook that has a small desk or stand that you can use for your computer and other office supplies.

But don’t forget the importance of making this area visually attractive too—cute décor can really boost your mood, give you inspiration, and instill a positive vibe. Surrounding yourself with things you love— whether that’s flowers or pictures of loved ones—sets the tone for a happy work day.

My office area is a true reflection of me and has all of my favorite things. I love incorporating a variety of items to give a space a chic look. My gold bookcase really pops against the wall, and my plush blue chair is the perfect place to sit while I’m brainstorming my next big adventure.

Ultimately, my vision for a productive work space is a mix of fashion and function, style and purpose. We girls love pretty things, so why not be able to enjoy them while you work?

Once you’ve got your space created, it’s time to figure out how and when you’re going to use it! Plan ahead a schedule of what you want your day or week to look like. Are you dedicated to working a 9-5 schedule? Or do you plan to take a break for a workout at lunchtime? Maybe you’re a morning person and want to start at the crack of dawn. Or you’re a night owl and are most productive after the sun goes down.

The nice thing about working from home is that you can often make your own hours and figure out a schedule that works for your personal lifestyle and family. The key, however, is thinking ahead to make everything fit and not waste any precious time.

Working from home IS possible…if you follow these tricks for a productive experience. Trust me, ladies, if you dream it, you can do it! So what are you waiting for? You deserve a life and business that makes you happy. And who says that can’t happen from home?

Thank you for this post! It totally confirmed my thoughts for creating an office space at home. I have so so much to work on right now, and leaving the house to work and get away from distractions like laundry and dishes is not ideal. #coronavirus So, I’m going to get on creating a space dedicated solely to work. Then creating a set schedule to stick with. Thanks again for the inspo! 😘 Keep up the awesome work! You and your husband are such a light on IG. Love your content!

Thank you for sharing!!! I know lots of people are switching from working in an office to work at home right now and it’s a totally different vibe. I am currently set up temporarily with my dining room table as a desk until we can buy one! Going to add some candles and candles to really make it my little creative space while I’m home for awhile!!
