I was sitting at home watching Hulu one day when I saw this AXE commercial.

The whole commercial was about me to “developing your own style”.

In that moment, I had an existential crisis because I realize I had never done that.

In that moment, I realized that I was the significant other to a fashion blogger and I had no style.

As you all know, I am part of the Dani Austin entourage. You see, my lifestyle requires that I constantly be around the most beautiful, cool, fashionable people in the world.  To all the grand openings, fashion weeks, and  restaurant tastings I am whisked with fashionistas.

I want to tell you about my favorite shirt.

When I am in public with Dani I realize that a lot of girls typically stare at us. I used to think to myself, “this is so awkward, they are checking me out right in front of my girlfriend.” But it didn’t take me long before I realized that I was never the object of their affection. It was always Dani. People check out her shoes, her skirts, her shirts, her jewelry, everything. She has developed such a unique style for herself that you just can’t help but study it whether you are a man, woman, or child.

Well, there was this one time just recently that a girl came up to Dani and I at a party, stopped her conversation, locked her eyes onto me right in front of Dani and said “I really like your shirt”.

From that point on, this shirt has been my favorite shirt. Sometimes I wear it to work, sometimes I wear it to coffee, and I even wear it to some of those grand opening parties. The one thing that you can know is that if I am wearing this shirt then I am definitely trying to impress you.

This is me on two separate dinner occasions within one week wearing my favorite shirt.

The problem with my favorite shirt is that it just isn’t enough to make up a “style”.

In other words, one shirt don’t make no wardrobe in the world I’m living in.

Back to the AXE ad that motivated this epiphany in the first place. Here I am realizing that I am dating a fashion blogger with only one go-to option to look stylish myself. I decided that enough was enough and it was time for a change. I started googling around and thought maybe the brand itself had some pointers on people with style.

Little did I know there is a hidden portal on Walmart.com where AXE hosts a music hub featuring the musical style makers of today, such as Lukas Graham, Dierks Bentley, Charlie Puth and Sam Hunt. I realized that there was one thing that all of them had in common that made them cool. And that was very defined hair. While I couldn’t change my shirt situation as it was now 1:00 a.m., I could definitely change my dew thanks to the 24/7 tireless service of Walmart.

I ended up buying AXE Apollo 2-in-1 Shampoo + Conditioner because it let me wash and condition my hair at the same time. Who really has time to do both? I also bought the AXE Clean Cut Look Classic Hair Pomade because it promised to give my hair the medium hold and a finishing shine like Charlie and Dierks.

I tried to find my style that night, but I think that the problem was that I was trying to find it in someone else. Dani always told me that style is your own and it is a reflection of who you are. In my existential crisis, I was trying to be Sam Hunt, Dierks Bentley, and Charlie Puth when really I needed to focus on being Jordan Ramirez in my style. I guess what I learned is that it is a lot of effort to walk around in envy and imitation. At 3:00 a.m. I realized that I was more confident and comfortable just being me. I suppose that’s the greater lesson to be learned here. Don’t waste your time, just find your own style and magic.

I can’t say that a trip to Walmart to purchase AXE products will develop your self esteem. I can’t say that styling your hair differently will hide the fact that you only have one shirt that you feel good in. But after this whole debacle, I can say that an AXE commercial inspired me to take the plunge, try something new, and find a new way of being me. As far as I’m concerned if you can have a favorite shirt, a bit of hair gel, and a girlfriend who loves you anyway then you got mad style.

I still only have one favorite shirt.

I now have some nice shampoo and hair gel.

And at the end of the day I smell great.

Thanks to AXE for being the sponsor for my style in this post.
