What It Really Means to be an Instagram Husband

What It Really Means to be an Instagram Husband

Hey guys, Jordan here! I’m sure you’ve seen and heard about my new project: The Instagram Husband Podcast. I’m super excited about it and can’t wait to share more with you. But like any new project, it was a work in progress….and this one was extra challenging for me because of the road I took to get here.

Ok, here goes…deep breath…I quit my job. I am now a full-time Instagram husband. Ah! I know!

You might be thinking I’m crazy (and trust me, I would have agreed with you if you would have asked me this a year ago), but hear me out…

My career up until now has been in the area of business startups, and not to sound like I’m patting myself on the back, but I was pretty successful in that industry. I never dreamed of quitting my job, and it’s actually hard for me to “admit” that I “quit” anything.

It was super scary at first and took a good deal of processing to get to where I am now (which is a happy place). So for those of you who have done it before, or are thinking of doing the same thing, I wanted to share my experience in this unique career shift.

Over the past year, I have realized and achieved three major milestones:

  1. Turns out there’s a lot of Instagram husbands out there! I learned that I’m not alone in this position and that “working with my wife” in this niche is not as uncommon as I thought. At first, I avoided the “what do you do” question people would ask me. I mean, how could I admit that I quit a successful job to help take photos of my wife for her thousands of followers? It was hard at first, but over time, I began to get more comfortable with it…which brings me to:

  2. Opening up and being transparent is KEY. So, at the beginning I had a bit of a breakdown and was just having a hard time with this new path and my role in it. Did I make the right decision? But once I learned to be open and vulnerable, I was able to voice my feelings to not only Dani, but to the other spouses in the same position as me.

  3. Today, I’m OWNING it! I love being an Instagram husband and being able to relate to the other IG husbands in the industry! I realize that there’s always going to be haters no matter what you do, but there’s nothing I can do about that. So I’m choosing to live authentically and happily, regardless of what others think. No one is going to “get” everything you do, and no one is going to be as passionate about what you do. But that’s OK!

My initial resistance eventually dissolved into a passion for Dani’s projects and now I love being part of them and bringing my own ideas to her platforms. Dani’s loyal followers have been nothing short of amazing, and have welcomed and embraced me from Day 1. Once I learned more about the space and heard Dani’s ideas for 2019, I knew I was all in.

I love it – my husband supports me in whatever I have chosen to do – and at the end of the day – the thing you have to know is that you were a good person and you two wouldn’t be where you are if you weren’t.
