Last week I headed to the Nordstrom Wedding Suite to jumpstart my journey of finding a wedding dress. So like any bride-to-be who’s ever binge watched Say Yes to the Dress, I brought my mom and a few friends to spectate. Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, so I hope that sharing some key things I learned before and during this process will help a sister out in the future! (Why doesn’t anyone tell you this stuff?)
BEFORE YOU GO
Presentation is can be everything – I always think things tend to look and feel better when I feel confident, it’s cheesy but true. You don’t need to go all out, but emulating an aspect or two of how you want to look in your dream gown can definitely help. It can help you see what that dress would really look like on your big day! For me, I just made sure I used my self tanner for a couple of days leading up to trying dresses on.
Know your budget ahead of time – This is definitely important when filtering what you choose or what is brought to your dressing room. Make sure before you put anything on that it is a dress you can afford. I was very upfront with the woman who helped me last week, and I let her know my budget. If you try on a dress that’s over your budget and fall in love with it, it will either make you think ‘what if’ or make you recalculate your wedding financials.
UNDIES… Bring pasties or a sticky bra along with other bra options just in case! Annnd definitely don’t wear lime green underwear like I did (seriously, that happened).
Wear simple, classic jewelry – It will work with most dress styles and help you get a better picture of how to accessorize – I just wore diamond stud earrings!
DURING
Listen to your intuition. It can be easy to be swayed or disheartened when others don’t have the reaction you want. If you love it, say it! (But sometimes mama knows best)

Filter them out of the dressing room. When trying on, filter the dresses you liked in an area and get rid of the straight up “no’s”. Then after you are done trying everything on, try those favorites on again.
WALK IN IT! Standing on a big pedestal in front of a huge mirror is fun and all, but eventually you’re going to have to walk in that thing, and dance. Move around in the dresses if you can and get a feel for what works and doesn’t.
Attitude is everything – The first place you try on dresses is most likely not the last, so having fun and laughing it off can help you make a special memory (and not a bridezilla moment). I really focused on being positive, knowing that the experience was just paving the way to my dream dress!
