Wedding Invitations // Top (Size XS) // Earrings // Jeans (Size 25)// Shoes // Dining Room Table

Ok guys…things are gettin’ REAL serious over here! Wedding countdown is ON, and we just checked off a major step in the process: Wedding Invitations!

Y’all, they are sooooooo pretty. Like really, really pretty. I’m super excited and now that those puppies are in the mail, I was looking forward to receiving the invites for so long and I loved how everything came out.

It was a huge relief to get our invites out, not only because it was one more thing to cross off our to-do list, but because there’s actually a lot more that goes into invitations than I ever realized. Turns out wedding invite etiquette exists—who knew this was even a THING??

So as much as I wanted to just write in all caps “WE’RE GETTING MARRIED, Y’ALL—COME PARTAYYY!” (because really that’s how I feel), I also wanted our invites to have a sense of elegance and formality. I like traditions, so my goal was to create something that blended customary elements with modern and unique twists!

Find an invitation vendor. We ended up choosing Minted for all of our paper goods because they have a huge variety of styles that fit exactly what we were looking for. The Minted team was also super helpful when it came to me asking questions and planning our design. They even made sure to look over everything (because, hellooooo…typos happen) and give other suggestions before we placed our final order. We were so happy with Minted’s selection and customer service, we use them for not only invites, but also our menu (which made our fajita dinner look pretty darn chic!), escort cards, thank you cards, and table numbers.

Minted made it super easy to get the wedding invitations out to our guests because you can upload your guest address book so they’ll automatically have them addressed and ready to go! Holla for one less thing to do!!!

So we got all the components, laid them out on the table, looked at each other, and said, “Now what?” Uhhhhhh…stuff it all in the envelope? Well, yes, but I learned that there’s actually an order in which the contents are placed. This on top of that, that behind this, this tucked around that. Whew!

On to addressing these bad boys!

That’s where I encountered lesson #2. I wrote my future in-laws’ address (on the backside of the return envelope, I learned), I discovered that really it should be MY address or my parent’s address. I think this is a more traditional approach and can be done any way you like!

Here are some other wedding invitation etiquette  tips I’ve learned in the process,

INVITE TIMELINE. Traditionally, invitations go out six to eight weeks before the wedding—that gives guests plenty of time to clear their schedules and gives you enough time to figure out headcount for your vendors.

DEADLINE. Make your RSVP deadline 2-3 weeks before the wedding just to make your life A LOT easier!

WEDDING DRESS CODE. The easiest way to get your point across is to include a dress code in the lower right-hand corner of the invite or on a reception card. “Black tie,” “cocktail attire” or “casual attire” are all acceptable!

PLUS ONE’S. If a guest isn’t married or in a serious relationship, it’s perfectly acceptable to invite them solo! Most guests will understand that without “and Guest” or another name on the invitation means they aren’t invited with a plus-one.

Once we got them all addressed, the finishing touch was a custom-made stamp, featuring a selfie of Jordan and I from our first vlog after the engagement. Yeah, I know. Stinking cute. We can’t help it. I love the idea that people will see that stamp and get a sense of our fun, loving relationship when they receive the invite in the mail.

Having a bit of fun with the invites was important to me. As much as I love the classic sophistication of our invite set, I’m glad we added our own details to show our personality. Because let’s be honest, sometimes it’s fun to break the rules.

I couldn’t be happier with the final result. We went with a pink and gold foil color scheme, and even though all of the pieces aren’t necessarily the same theme, they all coordinate in color. They’re modern yet timeless—the best combo, right?

Putting time and attention to your invitations can be great because they’ll have a long lifespan for your loved ones as a keepsake. I can’t wait to hold onto a copy of our invite as a small piece of our big day!

xo,
Dani
