Comparison on Instagram

  • Struggling with Comparison on Instagram?

Do you ever get a sick feeling in your stomach after looking at Instagram? I’ll be the first to admit it. I DO. I’m usually pretty good about protecting myself from social media but I am not gonna lie, it’s tough for me to not feel a little comparison or even jealousy sometimes! *UGH I am so human!

Even posing for this pic in my sweatpants, I was like, dang. I’m so not stylish lol like these other girls at New York Fashion Week on my feed. I kept telling myself “DAN GET IT TOGETHER!” Maybe for you, it’s a friend group, a job opportunity, or a relationship.

Girl, I want to tell you something today and I need ya to remember this! Write it on your mirror or save this post. REFUSE to let the devil win. All those negative feelings…THAT’S ALL A LIE! NOT ONLY ARE YOU ENOUGH, BUT YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, STRONG, AND THE BEST AT BEING YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD. I’m not the one who said it, the Big Man Upstairs did! Let’s get to his scripture, shall we?

♥️See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (1 John 3:1)
♥️My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
♥️But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)

✨Let’s not waste another day believing words that GOD did not say.

✨Let’s put on our skinny jeans (or sweatpants) and feel like a hot sassy mama empowered in who GOD says we are.

✨Let’s scroll through our IG feeds (or don’t!, either way, lol!) and find PEACE that we are good enough.

✨Let’s live life in freedom and joy.

Thank you for providing scripture and courageously sharing that it is all about God and not us!

So true1 It is really hard to want to keep up with all of the trends and owning the trendy styles and stay humble and not greedy. I feel sometimes like everything in the blogger world is centered so much around buying and consuming but we have to stay grounded and remember that it truly all is vanity. Can’t remember the verse for that one but it is a great one.
Love hearing about the reality and human side of blogging though. Keep it up!

    Hi Dani,
I have to be honest here. I absolutely loved your retainer talks and I really felt the transparency and honesty of your Instagram stories.
However, I felt as though recently you are all about women feeling good about themselves whether they are single, dating, or married. Then you had a post after your jaw botox surgery about being transparent, which to be honest, felt a little hypocritical considering you had just got botox, have hair extensions, and dyed your hair. It makes some women, like myself, self-conscious to also change my hair and face like you.
If you want to post about being transparent, post a picture with no extensions or makeup, and feeling confident in yourself with what God gave you. Whether it’s thin hair, thick hair, long, or short. No need to change who you are.
I understand there are so many “influencers” in the Instagram, blog, and youtube world who do things just to get more “engagement’ and followers but I always thought you were different and wouldn’t give in to that lifestyle to be like everybody else.

      Hey Rachel,
First, I understand where you are coming from. Dani is amazing isn’t she?! She’s always been so relatable to me. Like you and me, Dani is not perfect. She has her own insecurities just like everyone, and I believe she has ALWAYS been transparent about that. Being transparent doesn’t mean ‘unchanged.’
“When you’re transparent, you invite trust by revealing that you have nothing to hide. You establish yourself as an honest, credible person in the eyes of others. The prospect of being open and vulnerable may make you nervous, but the digital revolution has made transparency a matter of survival.” – LinkedIn
I truly believe Dani lets us inside her world with complete transparency. Dani had health issues with her jaw, which is why she tried botox to shrink her tumor. She was 100% transparent about it. She shared real, unedited photos of her jaw, took us along with to her appointment visit, and then shared before and after photos of her entire progress. Yes, she has hair extensions and dyes her hair, but that doesn’t make her any less transparent. She always shows photos of her thinner, very curly hair. She’s not afraid to show her true self. I support Dani in wanting to feel beautiful and if that means having thicker, longer, blonder hair…then go for it girlfriend! Let’s support her now more than ever and she will continue to be the Dani we’ve always loved.
P.S. Dani recently posted an unfiltered photo of herself wearing a hat and no make up. Did you see it? I can’t think of another time ANY other fashion blogger has done that on Instagram.
