Why You Should Make Your Bed Every Morning

Confession: Jordan snores when he sleeps. Shhhhhhh! Don’t tell him I told you! Yeah, yeah, I get it….snoring is really common. But I can tell ya one thing: the last thing I want to be snoring in my bedroom is the bed itself!

Thankfully, we were lucky enough to team up with Kathy Kuo for our bedroom transformation, and the end result is amazing. Our bed is the focal point of the room, and what makes it look so stunning is the Lili Alessandra bedding. Lili Alessandra’s home collection features a wide assortment of bedding, pillows and more that is the perfect blend of modernity and luxury. We wanted our bed to be a relaxing oasis— comfortable, inviting, and pretty at the same time. Anything but a snooze fest!!

Pretty bedding, check. Now… do I have to make it everyday? YES. Scroll on to see why you should make your bed every morning!

Making Your Bed Every Morning

I know what you’re thinking…who wants to make their bed…especially when it’s so complicated? Making your bed look beautiful and neat takes a few extra minutes in the morning, but trust me, it’s so worth it to have a picture perfect space that you can’t wait to come home to.

During my commencement at the University of Texas, the chancellor gave the following speech (and later turned into a book: Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life and Maybe The World.) He suggests doing the most difficult parts of your day in the morning so that you are not stressed throughout the day. Once you make your bed, the simplest task of them all, you have accomplished your first task of the day and are ready to take on the world! (Watch this video to really be inspired!)

THE SIMPLEST TASK WILL BE DONE. Allowing you to continue your day accomplishing more important tasks.

REMINDS YOU THAT THE LITTLE THINGS MATTER. It’s easy to get swept up in the act of being busy. But the little things really do matter. When I make my bed, it’s an act of self love, or a little reminder that some thing’s in my life are together! lol!

Who would’ve known it changing the world would start with you making your bed every morning?? I definitely feel better in the mornings after I make my bed, and whenever it’s time to tuck in for the night, I have my beautiful bed ready to give me a big hug!!

Basketweave and Blush Velvet Collection

Our bedding is from the basketweave and blush velvet collection, which has such a romantic vibe but is still sophisticated and neutral enough for the guys in your life too. One of the keys to making a bed look oh-so-glam is layering. That’s right, bring on da layers! Why stop at just one comforter when you can add a blanket, throw and coverlet to coordinate!?

After tucking in your sheets carefully (hospital corners, anyone??), pull up your next layer and fold over just in front of the pillows. Your following layers should fold down in a cascading manner, revealing a peek at the top of each. And don’t forget to add a fuzzy throw blanket at the foot of the bed for added texture! Top it all off with endless amounts of pillows (yes, you’ll have to remove them and put them back Every. Single. Day.). That’s where my bench comes to the rescue!!

Your bed should be a direct reflection of you and your personality, so take advantage of the amazing designs out there to really create a space that speaks to you. So goodbye snooze fest, and hello sleeping sanctuary.
