My favorite fashion trend this fall is the wide brim hat. Forgo the hair brush and hide the messy tangles under a hat instead? Yes, please. Hats may be the only fashion accessory men know more about than women, but unfortunately we can’t throw on a baseball cap and call it a day, or we can…but last time I did a stranger came up to me at the grocery and hoped I would “get better soon,” when in fact, I was feeling dandy.

When worn in the right way, a hat can be the ultimate accessory to finish off an outfit and help your look come together. So to answer the question in the back of your mind, yes you can wear a hat. Just keep trying them on and don’t feel like you have to spend a ton of money on label. A general rule is you don’t want your hat to overpower your face so if you have a small face try hats with a smaller brim and if you have a wider face or wider cheekbones, try a wider brimmed hat. I try on hats at garage sales, Nordstrom’s, Target, and my dad’s closet. Once you find your fit, you’ll know! Just remember that balancing bold headwear with simple silhouettes is the key for this look; you want to avoid costume territory.
